Gemma
Furbank is a hot house music rising star! As a DJ, she is well-known
for bringing truly sublime tracks together with flawless precision... Gemma
owned her first decks in 2003 - her beloved Technics 1210's. It wasn't
until late 2007, she finally decided to mastered the decks, and learnt
the art of DJing. In October 2008 she invested in her Pioneer CDJ1000
mk3's.
She
was an early starter on the clubbing scene, starting her clubbing in
1993 and discovering Cream in 1996. It was there that she first
encountered Paul Oakenfold, resident DJ at that time! " Oakey blew my
mind on a regular basis, and I was mesmorised by the whole atmosphere
and swiftly became hooked on the whole scene!"
Gemma
takes a lot of Inspiration from her favourite DJ's and styles, and is
always inspired by DJ James Zabiela and his crazy skills!
Gemma was asked to submit a mix to the Uber
crew in Carlisle, and made it to the live final of their annual DJ
competition in Jan 09, with Paul Jackson Headlining.
Shortly after, she bagged her 1st Manchester gigs, at the very plush Label, Deansgate..something DJs can strive for for years and still not get bookings.
Gemma
then entered the world of promoting and organised charity House night
"Aural Pleasure" in February 09. All proceeds went to Breast Cancer
Care. The night gained support from local and International DJs such as
David Dunne (Galaxy Radio/Hed Kandi) who played at the event, and DJs
like K-Klass and Jon Fitz who offered promo support and prizes!
Not
content with playing bars and clubs, Gemma is booked to play some
festivals this Summer. Catch her on the Outdoor Stage at Revival Dance
Music Festival, Blackburn on July the 4th. Headlining will be Adam
Sheridan and Micky Slim. Fifteen hours of musical madness! Also see her
DJ at Ravonstonedale festival in Cumbria on the 18th July 09.
Again,
never being one to sit back, Gemma is organising the dance tent at
"Mozfest" in Mossley (August 09). Of course, she will be taking over
the decks over the weekend at some point too. She plans to book some
top established DJs, as well as some undiscovered local talent, playing
a whole variety of styles.
Gemma is already receiving a lot of interest from promoters abroad for International gigs !
"I
play a very ecclectic mix, and basically think genres can be very
stifling! If it sounds shit hot..it sounds shit hot! I play it! haha
Genres create rules, and i love to break rules!"
She adores Prog house/Prog Breaks/House/Tech-House/Minimal Tech/Techno/Electro - she likes to call it 'Ecclectronic music'!
A quote by Chris Massey, one half of the amazing Uberchic ;
"Top girl, top dj and all round nice gal!
A real original sound in your sets of which i have heard 3 now and been
mightly impressed each & everytime, big things ahead i dare say!!!
;-)"
On smashing her 1st ever Headline gig only 5 months into her professional career, she was snatched up by the promoters and is now the new DJane resident for BA55MENT..with other exciting stuff going on behind the scenes. The crowd loved every minute of her set and the room echoed with chants "Gemma...Gemma.."
Gemma
is just as likely to be seen in front of the deck's as behind them.
She's still an avid clubber, and love's to get in the thick of it, when
dancing to her favourite DJ's and Producers!
She
is also hoping to follow many of the people she admires, into the
production side this year. She puts in plenty of hard work and believes
that you can get anything if you want it bad enough! "Onwards and
Upwards!!! 2009 is gonna kick ass!"
Find her on Facebook under "Gemma Furbank" & "Aural Pleasure". Other websites;

DjsintheMix does have a lot of great people, love making new friends here.

As for me it's all been a big let down one right after the other this week. I'm just trying to get a job that will pay me decently so I don't have to work 2 jobs...but it sucks over here now...
But as I said it's cool that you have so much going on for you. Hopefully one day I'll be able to be in the UK and catch yah.
As for your puddy's ashes, it's cool he's back home...I'd hate to imagine what your sister has to do though for the ashes of her horse lol.
